Goodbye Mr Chips

5. How technology is changing learning

How has technology changed the teacher's role? Well it has replaced Mr Chips with Mr Jobs, according to a teacher who contributes blogs to Guardian Education.
Mike Britland is writing about his experience working in a comprehensive school, but his description of how his role has changed has some relevance to post-16. His description of classrooms in which you were given a text book and told to copy out sections sounds a lot like my own school experience.
He says he's gone from teacher to 'facilitator of learning' and welcomes that metamorphosis. He says: "Making use of technology to allow students the freedom to discover solutions to problems both independently and collaboratively is a force for good."
